Happy New Year

Hi everyone!
Its been a hectic 2014 for lots of us and we hope that 2015 will be a great one. The AE Team have lots of projects we are hoping to get to and hope to achieve. As you continue to work do not forget to get outside and use the outdoors as a place to help recharge your creative batteries. The outdoors does wonders, whether it's visiting state parks or the creek nearby, going outside and taking in nature is  amazing medicine.
One of the fantastic things were are starting year off with is a Schoolism Live event in Austin, TexasSchoolism is bringing some incredible instructors. Nathan Fowkes, Terryl Whitlatch and our very own David Levy! I will also be joining Terryl in her creature design class so it should be an exciting time for everyone.
Hope to see lots of you there. All the best to you all and have a wonderful New Year!!

Terryl Whitlatch joins Art Explorers

It is with great honor and admiration that we proudly announce our newest Art Explorers team member, the incredibly talented Terryl Whitlatch. From drawing mustangs to endless conversations of winged raptors, Terryl was too much of a great fit not to have her with us. Terryl and I can spend endless hours discussing the flights of merlins down to the ways pangolins walk. Her love for drawing and all things wild have led to us being great friends.
Terryl has worked on many projects from Disney's Brother Bear to Star Wars. Her amazing knowledge of animals and creature designs are a well known. She is a scientific and academically trained creature designer and concept artist. Combining in-depth knowledge of zoology and animal anatomy with her incredible illustration skills.
Terryl has illustrated several books including the amazing "Animals Real and Imagined" available at Design Studio Press. I am excited to have her on board to share her knowledge, skills and adventures. We are very honored to have you on board Terryl! Welcome!
Thank you all for the kind messages on the blog , we promise more posts, David, Thierry and myself have been swamped and Kristy is doing her best to round us up. We have some great announcements soon and hope to bring you all more. Including guest interviews and upcoming events.
From all of us at Art Explorers thanks!
Enjoy some Terryl Whitlatch art...

Childhood casse-tete

Hi explorers of all horizons,
It's such a pleasure to start a new project with some old friends that i had to find some free time to post something this WE despite the overtime at Ubisoft during this E3 madness! What a great idea to present some personal works and conversations outside of our usual - more confined - Concept Art realm, so thank you KristyManu and Vyle :-)
I grew up in the beautiful island of Madagascar, living mostly outside, playing with my brother and friends, we were living amazing adventures everywhere, either on land, beach or sea and probably a lot in our heads too. From as far as i can recall, drawing has been a big part of my life, but growing up and becoming a Concept Designer today was just a logical evolution after my childhood "traumas".
I think it all started mainly because of 2 thing; Lego© and spearguns. With the family, we spent all our weekends in Foulpointe, i remember being so intensely impressed by the local Malagasy kids who had homemade wooden spear-guns and were fishing in the reefs nearby. It became an obsession, i needed to make one myself but i never perfectly understood how they designed their trigger mechanisms (about 8 years old an no internet, DIY engineering isn't that easy), after drawing hundreds of triggers and trying different prototypes made out of planks, nails and tire tubes,  it ended up being... a big fail! Yes my spearguns never worked well but at least it was fun to try. So here is an homage to these ingenious kids, thanks for sparking the love of problem-solving and design!
memories...
Concerning Legos, it's another story but not for now...
